The Trinkhalle of 1842 is the pump room of the old cure business and one of its most elegant survivors: a colonnade roughly 300 feet long carried by 16 Corinthian columns, designed by the architect Heinrich Hübsch. Under the arcade, 14 large-format wall paintings retell legends and folk tales from Baden-Baden and the Black Forest, which is why locals treat the hall as a picture book as much as a building.
Spa guests once came here to drink the thermal water between treatments and to be seen strolling in the shade. Today the building houses the town's tourist information office, and the walk along the frescoes costs nothing.
