The Geroldsauer Wasserfall (Geroldsau waterfall) lies in the Grobbach valley south of Baden-Baden, where the Grobbach stream drops over mossy rock ledges into a wooded ravine. The scene was already pulling in spa guests and landscape painters in the 19th century, and it is still the most popular short nature trip from town.
From the village of Geroldsau, a well-marked path reaches the falls in about half an hour on mostly easy ground. In spring the Baden-Badener Blütenweg (the Baden-Baden blossom trail) lines the route with flowering cherry trees and rhododendrons, which is the prettiest time to walk it.
Good to know
- About a 30-minute walk from the village of Geroldsau; wear proper shoes, the last stretch gets slick.
- Best in spring during the blossom, and after a few days of rain when the water is running hard.
- Can be extended into a longer hike toward the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, the Black Forest ridge road.
